Hatchets fall in road matchup against Oconto Falls

OCONTO FALLS – The Tomahawk Hatchet football team took on Oconto Falls in a road matchup on Friday, Oct. 15, and were defeated by a score of 38 to 23.

A 30-yard field goal by Dakota Jelinek and an interception returned for a 45-yard touchdown by Mason Evans put the Hatchets up 9 to 0 in the first quarter. However, the Panthers struck back with a touchdown of their own before the quarter ended, making the score 9 to 8 in favor of Tomahawk.

The Panthers would score 30 unanswered points before a punt returned for an 83-yard touchdown by Mason Evans in the fourth quarter brought the score to 38 to 15. A two-yard touchdown run by quarterback Tyler Jablonski brought the Hatchets closer to catching the Panthers, but Oconto Falls was ultimately able to seal the 38 to 23 victory.

Jablonski completed seven of 18 pass attempts for 73 yards and three interceptions. Logan Bishop (47 yards on four attempts) and Jablonski (21 yards on eight attempts) were the Hatchets’ leading rushers, while Addison Peissig hauled in two receptions for 23 yards.

The Hatchets will wrap up the regular season with a road matchup against Wittenberg-Birnamwood on Friday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
