Volleyball: Tomahawk beats Wittenberg-Birnamwood, goes 2-1 in conference tournament

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet varsity volleyball team hosted Wittenberg-Birnamwood and participated in the Great Northern Conference tournament in Mosinee last week.

The Hatchets defeated Wittenberg-Birnamwood in a four-set match on Thursday, Oct. 7. Scores were 25-14, 24-26, 25-11 and 25-19. Mackenzie Scholz led the team with three aces, while Meghan Scholz led the team with three blocks. Alyssa Zehner led the team with 14 kills, Samantha Gebauer led the team with seven digs, and Mackenzie Scholz finished the match with 41 sets.

Tomahawk participated in the Great Northern Conference tournament in Mosinee on Saturday, Oct. 9, where they beat Northland Pines in three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-17, 25-16; lost to Mosinee in three by scores of 21-25, 13-25, 12-25; and beat Lakeland in four by scores of 25-19, 25-14, 22-25, and 25-12.

The varsity Hatchets are set to travel to Antigo on Tuesday, Oct. 12. Regionals will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 19. Tomahawk’s opponent is yet to be determined.
