For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet football team hosted Northern Elite at Hatchet Field on Friday, Oct. 1 and pummeled the Predators 65-21.

With the win, the Hatchets clinched their 12th playoff berth in the history of the program and their first since 2015.

The Hatchets got on the board in the first quarter with a four-yard touchdown run by quarterback Tyler Jablonski, putting the Hatchets up 6-0.

Mason Evans tacked on another score in the first quarter, running a punt back 77 yards for a touchdown. A one-yard touchdown run by Jablonski extended Tomahawk’s lead to 20-0.

Northern Elite responded with a 24-yard touchdown reception, making the score 20-7. Jablonski, however, would find the end zone again before the end of the first quarter, this time on a 37-yard touchdown run.

After a five yard-touchdown run by Bode Imm, a 22-yard touchdown reception by Jake Kaminski, a 23-yard touchdown run by Jablonski, and a 46-yard touchdown run by Logan Bishop, all in the second quarter, the Hatchets went into the half with a commanding 52-7 lead.

The Predators were able to score a pair of touchdowns in the second half, but with Tyler Jablonski adding another touchdown run, the Hatchets were ultimately able to earn a big 65-21 win.

Jablonski completed six of seven passes for 113 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The Hatchet quarterback had a monster game on the ground, rushing for 105 yards and five touchdowns on 10 attempts.

Kaminski caught three passes for 60 yards and a touchdown, and Addison Peissig notched an interception for Tomahawk.

The Hatchets’ game at Northland Pines scheduled for Friday, Oct. 8 has been cancelled, according to the Great Northern Conference website.

On Friday, Oct. 15, the Hatchets are slated to travel to Oconto Falls to take on the Panthers. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
