Hatchet spikers fall to Mosinee, split first conference tournament

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet varsity volleyball team hosted Mosinee and traveled to Medford for its first conference tournament of the season last week.

The Hatchets fell to Mosinee in four sets at Hatchet Fieldhouse on Tuesday, Sept. 14, by scores of 18-25, 25-20, 20-25, and 21-25.

Meghan Scholz led the team in kills with 11. Claire Albert and Scholz led the team in aces with two apiece. Albert and Alyssa Zehner led the team in digs with 15 each, while Mackenzie Scholz finished with 26 assists.

Medford tournament

On Saturday, Sept. 18, the Hatchets traveled to Medford to compete in the first of two conference tournaments on the calendar this season.

Tomahawk faced Medford first, falling in four sets by scores of 23-25, 21-25, 25-22, and 16-25.

Meghan Scholz led the team in kills with 15 and blocks with four. Katie Pierce finished with 12 kills, and Emerson Lange and Samantha Gebauer led the team with one ace apiece. Claire Albert led the team with 18 digs, while Mackenzie Scholz finished the match with 46 assists.

After the defeat by Medford, the Hatchets bounced back with a dominant three-set victory over Rhinelander. Scores were 25-8, 25-10, and 25-19.

Alyssa Zehner led the team in kills with eight, and Meghan Scholz led the team with eight digs and three blocks. Alyssa Zehner led the team with three aces, while Mackenzie Scholz finished with 20 assists.

The varsity Hatchets will host a quad this week, and will also see rematches with Medford and Rhinelander.

The quad will be held at Hatchet Fieldhouse on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 5 p.m.

Medford will come to Tomahawk on Tuesday, Sept. 28, for a match that gets underway at 7 p.m.

Tomahawk will take on the Hodags in Rhinelander on Thursday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.
