Hatchet spikers sweep Lakeland, fall to Marathon

LAKELAND – The Tomahawk Hatchet volleyball team traveled to Lakeland and hosted Marathon last week, coming away with one win and one loss.

Lakeland

The varsity squad swept Lakeland in three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-9, and 25-20 on Tuesday, Sept. 7. Emerson Lange and Meghan Scholz led the team in aces with four each. Meghan led the team in blocks with two and 13 kills. Samantha Gebauer led the team with 10 digs, and Mackenzie Scholz finished with 24 assists.

The JV1 team fell to the T-Birds 1 to 2, with scores of 21-25, 17-25, and 15-10. Cayley Scholz led the team in serving eight aces on the night. Offensively, Sadie Liebelt led with five kills and two blocks, while Caylie Swan had 15 assists. Defensively, Chloe Buckwalter led with three digs.

The JV2 spikers came away with a 2 to 1 win, with scores of 16-25, 25-19, and 25-13, Ella Uelmen led the way with 11 aces and two kills. Bella Marino had seven aces, while Adalai Gedde six.

Marathon

The varsity team fell to Marathon in three sets on Thursday, Sept. 9. Scores were 20-25, 20-25, and 23-25. Meghan Scholz led the team in kills with 13, followed by Alyssa Zehner with eight. Claire Albert led the team in digs with 17. Mackenzie Scholz finished with 33 assists. Meghan Scholz and Alyssa Zehner each had a block in the match.

The JV1 squad won 2-1 by scores of 25-21, 25-16, and 11-15. Khianna Vacho and Sadie Liebelt led serving with three aces a piece. Cayley Scholz led the offense with six kills, and Caylie Swan had 12 assists. Khianna Vacho led the defense with 12 digs.
