Little Hatchet Run Club hosting ‘fun runs’ this month
For the Tomahawk Leader
TOMAHAWK – The Little Hatchet Run Club will host a series of “fun runs” this month.
The first fun run is slated for Monday, Sept. 13. Other fun runs will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 15; Monday, Sept. 20; and Wednesday, Sept. 22.
Racers will meet in the elementary school cafeteria at 3:20 p.m. Permission slips will be distributed during school hours to students in kindergarten through 5th grade.
“Kids interested in learning more about the sport of running, cross country, or track, or just want to have some fun running around outside, are encouraged to attend with a returned permission slip, athletic shoes that can be worn for running, as well as clothing that’s appropriate for the weather and comfortable to move in,” coach Justin Lund stated.
The fun runs will wrap up at 4:15 p.m. Runners can be picked up at the elementary school entrance.
On Wednesday, Sept. 29, races will take place at Hatchet Field. Warm-ups will start at 3:20 p.m., followed by the races at 4 p.m. Students in kindergarten through 3rd grade will run approximately a half-mile through the Alan Bell trails. 4th and 5th graders will run roughly one mile.
“The race will have the look and feel of a big cross country meet, but will be geared towards youngsters,” Lund said.
