By the Tomahawk Leader
TOMAHAWK – The City of Tomahawk’s 16th annual citywide Dumpster Day, set for 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 25, will give city residents the opportunity to get rid of unwanted household items by bringing them to the City of Tomahawk Municipal Garage, 415 W. Spirit Ave., Tomahawk.
Dumpster Day is only open to city residents, and an ID will be required to take part. An electronic drop-off, also being held at the City Garage, is open to anyone.
Old furniture and other unwanted household items belonging to city residents can be disposed of at no cost, but donations to fund next year’s Dumpster Day are appreciated. Hazardous waste items, such as paint, gas cans, household chemicals, insecticides and medication, will not be accepted.
Tomahawk Iron and Metal will have a truck on-site to take most items not accepted as part of the free drop-off. The business’s main location at N10447 Tannery Road will be open until noon on the day of the event for non-city residents.
Tomahawk Boy Scout Troop 548 will provide roadside pickup for city residents unable to deliver their unwanted items to the City Garage. A fee of $20 is required for this service. Those needing assistance having items removed from homes or who would like to have the Boy Scouts pick up items at curbside are asked to contact City Hall at 715-453-4040. A pre-registration is required for the services by 4 p.m. on the Friday before the event.
Cost to dispose of items at the electronic drop-off, open to all, include: Monitors/computers, $15; TVs 26” or less, $20; TVs 27” or more, $25 to $35; copiers and floor printers, $25; DVDs, stereos and typewriters, $5; desk top printers, fax machines, $5; microwaves, no charge; 15” tires, $2; 16” tires, $3.
Dumpster Day, sponsored by the City of Tomahawk, was started by Tomahawk Make a Difference to make the city a more attractive place to visit and call home by providing city residents a free, nearby location to dispose of large household items that would otherwise need to be hauled to the dump.
