Football: Lakeland takes down Tomahawk

For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet football team hosted the Lakeland Thunderbirds at Hatchet Field on Friday, Aug. 27, and were unable to bounce back from a pair of turnovers, falling by a score of 21 to 6.

The first score of the game took place in the second quarter, when a Tomahawk fumble set up Lakeland at midfield. The T-Birds were ultimately able to drive down the field and score on a five-yard touchdown run.

Later in the quarter, the T-Birds intercepted a pass from quarterback Tyler Jablonski and ran it back for a 40-yard touchdown, extending Lakeland’s lead to 14 to 0.

The Hatchets were able to strike back before halftime. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Lakeland led to a 42-yard touchdown catch by Jake Kaminski, making the score 14 to 6 heading into the half.

The big play would be Tomahawk’s only score of the night, however, and Lakeland tacked on one more touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the 21 to 6 victory.

Hatchet quarterback Tyler Jablonski went 14 for 33 with 181 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Bode Imm completed four of five passes for 38 yards.

Jablonski also led Tomahawk on the ground, gaining 46 yards on 14 rushes. Mason Evans contributed seven rushing yards on three attempts, while Ryan Skees had five yards on two rushes.

Kaminski caught eight passes for 101 yards on a touchdown. Evans had six catches for 98 yards, and Mitch Jiminez had 23 yards off three receptions.

Tomahawk will host the Crivitz Wolverines at Hatchet Field on Friday, Sept. 3, with kickoff at 7 p.m.
