TOMAHAWK – The City of Tomahawk’s Health and Safety Committee, during its meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 15, unanimously denied a request from Tomahawk Main Street, Inc., to put signage along N. 4th St. from Sept. 13 through Sept. 20, during the Tomahawk Veterans Fall Ride.

Main Street sought to place roughly 25 to 30 corrugated cardboard and plastic signs, each 24” by 36”, in the boulevard strips of grass along Washington Square Park, as well as from River St. to Veterans Memorial Bridge. Each sign would have featured the name of a Fall Ride sponsor and welcomed visitors to the city.

The committee discussed the potential distraction the signs could cause, noting that they could exacerbate the danger already present during the busy weekend.

Tomahawk Police Chief Al Elvins also expressed safety concerns regarding the signage.

After further discussion, the committee approved a motion instructing Elvins and Parks Department Lead Steve Borem to collaborate with Main Street on finding another location for the signs.
