KATHERINE LAKE – Dive teams with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office participated in training together at Katherine Lake on Tuesday, Aug. 10.

Katherine Lake is located in Hazelhurst, just east of U.S. Highway 51.

In a post on its Facebook page, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office explained that the Oneida County Public Safety Dive Team and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team train jointly “to be ready for when they are called to assist with the rescue of persons in the water or the recovery of bodies and evidence.”

The teams train ten months out of the year in various weather conditions. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office noted that this week’s training saw some of the nicest weather the teams have trained in.

“Thank you to all of our divers for their commitment to our communities,” the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office stated.

“The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team is both honored and privileged to be able to work jointly with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team,” a post on the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page said. “In addition to joint training once a month, both teams respond together to all calls in each other’s service areas. The sharing of both personnel and resources is an asset to the communities, residents, and visitors in both counties.”
