Sheriff’s Office identifies Lincoln County Jail inmate found unresponsive, later pronounced dead

MERRILL – The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, Aug. 10 identified the Lincoln County Jail inmate who was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at a local hospital earlier this week.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, Aug. 8, at about 8 a.m., Lincoln County Jail Corrections Officers found an inmate identified as Meghan J. Kobach unresponsive and not breathing. Merrill Fire Department EMS were called to the scene, and lifesaving measures were performed by Lincoln County Corrections Officers and Merrill Fire Department paramedics before Kobach was transported to Merrill Aspirus Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

No other details were released.

The Langlade County Sheriff’s Office and the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, the Sheriff’s Office stated. The State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections was notified, and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said it will be conducting an internal review of the incident.
