Dare to Dream: Cruising Down the River

TOMAHAWK – Looking back at last summer, we were so isolated due to COVID-19 restrictions and really felt it.

When the residents were asked what they would like to do now that they’re vaccinated, someone mentioned a boat ride, and we ran with it.

Julie Thompson, Life Enrichment Coordinator, asked each person residing at Milestone Senior Living in Tomahawk if they’d like to go. In the end, 18 residents took part in the ride, along with staff and a volunteer.

Julie was able to get three volunteer boats and drivers to make this dream a reality for all. They cruised Lake Mohawksin and were given some history with their tour. The boats unloaded at Julie’s for lunch and then reloaded for the ride home.

As you can tell, this wasn’t a simple task, but all who went along for the ride thought it was well worth it to make their “Dare to Dream” come true. Two folks on the boat had never been on a pontoon, and many have never traveled this body of water.

We started loading at 10:15 a.m., and the last bus of people returned home by 3:45 p.m. Everyone reported they had a great time and slept so good due to the fresh air.

It was a day well spent!
