Lincoln County Jail inmate found unresponsive, pronounced dead at hospital

MERRILL – A Lincoln County Jail inmate who was found unresponsive was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, a release from the Lincoln County Sherriff’s Office said.

According to the release, on Sunday, Aug. 8, at about 8 a.m., Lincoln County Jail Corrections Officers found an inmate who was unresponsive and not breathing. Merrill Fire Department EMS were called to the scene, and lifesaving measures were performed by Lincoln County Corrections Officers and Merrill Fire Department paramedics before the inmate was transported to Merrill Aspirus Hospital, where the inmate was pronounced dead.

The name of the deceased had not been released prior to press time on Monday, Aug. 9, pending notification of family.

The Langlade County Sheriff’s Office and the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, the Sheriff’s Office stated. The State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections has been notified, and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said it will be conducting an internal review of the incident.
