For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Titans recently took on Whittlesey and Medford and emerged with one win and one loss.

Whittlesey

On the 4th of July, the Tomahawk Titans traveled to Whittlesey to take on the Reds in a Dairyland League game. In a closely contested game, Tomahawk ended up falling to Whittlesey by a score of 6-5.

After falling behind 3-0, the Titans rallied for four runs in the top of the third to take a 4-3 lead. The Reds countered with a run in the bottom of the third to tie it up at 4-4. Whittlesey tallied single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 6-4 lead. The Titans rallied for a run in the seventh as Fletcher Schoone singled in Caleb Armstrong who had previously doubled. With the score 6-5 heading to the ninth, Tomahawk fell just short as they left runners stranded at first and third when the final out was made.

Tomahawk collected 10 hits in the game as every player had a base hit. Eli Wurl, Nick Bolte, and Caleb Armstrong shared the pitching duties for the Titans.

Medford

The Tomahawk Titans hosted the Medford Moondogs on Saturday, July 10 and came away with a solid 6-2 victory.

Medford jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Seth Mudgett led off with a single, was sacrificed to second and scored on a single by Mike Delzer. After the first inning, Titans pitcher Eli Wurl settled in to pitch six consecutive scoreless innings. Meanwhile, Tomahawk got the offense going in the third inning as Nick Kahle reached base on an error to start the rally. After stealing second base, Kahle scored on Jacob DeMeyer’s RBI single to tie the game. DeMeyer promptly stole second and ended up scoring on consecutive wild pitches to give the Titans a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Justin Jarvensivu worked a walk with one out. Jacob DeMeyer singled to put runners at the corners. After DeMeyer stole second, both he and Jarvensivu scored on wild pitches, giving the Titans a 4-1 lead.

Tomahawk rallied again in the bottom of the seventh inning. Justin Jarvensivu reached on a leadoff walk and DeMeyer singled sharply to left field. Jarvensivu and DeMeyer then pulled off a double steal to put runners at second and third for the clean-up hitter, Jacob Jarvensivu. He delivered a single to right field, driving in both runners and increasing the lead to 6-1.

Wurl pitched through the seventh inning, giving way to Caleb Armstrong, who pitched a perfect eighth inning before allowing a single run in the ninth to make the final score 6-2. Wurl got the win, giving up one run on seven hits, no walks, and six strikeouts. Armstrong allowed one run on one hit and one walk, while striking out two.

At the plate, Tomahawk was led by Jacob DeMeyer, who went 3 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Jacob Jarvensivu was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

The victory improves the Titans’ record to 4-4 as they stay in the hunt for a Wisconsin Baseball Association playoff berth. Tomahawk hosts the Interwald Woodticks on Saturday, July 17 at Tyler Kahle Memorial Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
