Titans improve to 3-3 with big win over Westboro

For the Tomahawk Leader

WESTBORO – The Tomahawk Titans traveled to Westboro on Sunday, June 27 to face the Trojans in a Dairyland League baseball game and came away with a 16-2 victory in seven innings. Coming off last weekend’s 8-1 loss to Everest, in which Tomahawk was frustrated by leaving numerous runners on base, the Titans pounded out 21 hits enroute to the win over Westboro.

Tomahawk jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first as Jacob Jarvensivu’s RBI single plated Nick Kahle who previously singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a long fly ball. The Titans then proceeded to score three runs in the second inning and seven more in the third to jump out to an 11-1 lead. Nick Kahle blasted a three-run double to left center to do the damage in the second, and Jared Jarvensivu, Jacob DeMeyer, and Isaac Weber delivered the big RBI hits in the third inning offensive outburst. Tomahawk tacked on two runs in the fourth, two more in the fifth inning, and another in the seventh inning.

Meanwhile, Eli Wurl was cruising on the mound, giving up only a single run in the third inning and an unearned run in the fifth. Wurl got the win for Tomahawk, giving up six hits while striking out five and walking two in his five innings of work. Jared Jarvensivu pitched a hitless final two innings, closing out the game and completing the 16-2 win.

Nick Kahle led the offensive attack for Tomahawk going 4 for 4 with a double and four RBIs. Jared Jarvensivu was 3 for 5 with a double and five RBIs, Connor Ahrens was 3 for 4 with three runs scored, and Jacob Jarvensivu was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs.

The win improves the Titans’ record to 3-3 in the Dairyland with five games remaining in the regular season. Tomahawk remains in the hunt for a playoff berth as they travel to Whittlesey on Sunday, for a Fourth of July game against the Reds. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
