Pow Wow Days: Full slate of events set for Tomahawk’s annual 4th of July celebration

TOMAHAWK – Tomahawk will once again be the place to be on the 4th of July.

After a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tomahawk Lions Club’s full slate of Pow Wow Days events will feature the return of classic Independence Day festivities.

Events in Tomahawk on Sunday, July 4 will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with the annual 5K/10K races at Veterans Memorial Park, followed by the One-Mile Fun Run at 9 a.m. and the children’s races at 10:30 a.m. Pre-registration for all races, sponsored by the Tomahawk Lions Club and area businesses, must take place online at www.bit.ly/3gpiCI8. No race-day registrations are guaranteed. The 5K/10K registration fee will be $30 for those who register by June 26, and will increase to $35 between June 27 and July 1. The One-Mile Fun Run registration fee will be $15 until June 27, and will increase $20 until July 1. Age groups (male and female) are as follows: 10K – 14 & under, 15-16, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+; 5K – 10 & under, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+; Fun Run – 6 & under, 7-9, 10-12. Medallions: 5K – 1st through 3rd in each age category; medals for all 10K finishers. Trophies will be awarded to male and female 1st and 2nd overall finishers in the 5K/10K. There will be no duplicate awards. Refreshments and drawings will be available. Performance Wick T-shirts are included with registration and are also available online. The Lions Club’s Chicken Barbeque downtown will begin at 10 a.m., and other food and refreshments will be available at 11 a.m.

The annual Pow Wow Days parade downtown will begin at 1 p.m. After the parade, the Tomahawk Fire Department’s Water Demonstration will take place on W. Wisconsin Ave.

At 3 p.m. downtown, the winner of the Lions Club’s ATV raffle will be drawn.

The Kwahamot Water Ski Show in Kwahamot Bay, near the Bridge Inn Motel on Deer Park Rd., will start at 8 p.m. Fireworks will be held at dusk and can be viewed from either the ski show or SARA Park.

A COVID-19 vaccination station will be available during the Pow Wow Days festivities.
