Donna Slaton Wallesverd, 89, formally of Tomahawk, went to Heaven to be with the Lord on May 11, 2021.
Donna, was born on Aug. 16, 1931 to George and Ruth (nee. Ingraham) Nuehring in Prentice, Wis. Donna was born pre-mature at 28 weeks and with the stamina and loving care of her mother miracuously survived, not heard of in those days.
Donna met her husband John “Jack” Slaton in Prentice. They married and moved to Tomahawk, where together they owned and operated Slaton’s Furniture Inc. After “Jack” died, she continued to run the business by herself. Donna had a flair for interior design and opened Donna’s House of Design, home decorating. She enjoyed her customers and became lifelong friends with many.
Donna was an accomplished pianist and was invited to play for weddings and for many years, played for church services. She also had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She wrote lyrics to many songs and put them to music, hand writing each musical note so that the song could be played on the piano.
She enjoyed making wonderful meals for her family and was famous for her delicious “pop-overs.” She was a dedicated loving mother and grandmother.
Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering great faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her.
Donna was predeceased by her parents, a sister, Avalon, husband and father of her children, John “Jack” Slaton, daughters Jacqueline and Ellen, latter husband, Guerdan Wallesverd and beloved fur-kid, Darla.
Donna is survived by daughter, Karen Slaton, sons, Ted (Vicki) Slaton, Bruce (Magda) Slaton, and Rodney, 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and at least 4 great-great grandchildren .
We will miss her greatly.
Donna’s daughter, Karen, wishes to express gratitude to Friendly Village Nursing Home and Compassus Hospice Care whose team members became extended family. The care, compassion and love shown was truly a blessing.
An intimate family gathering and dinner was held in lieu of services.
