For the Tomahawk Leader

ANTIGO – The varsity and JV Hatchet golf squads were on the road for numerous conference meets last week.

Varsity at Antigo

The Tomahawk Hatchet varsity golf team visited Antigo for a meet on Tuesday, May 11 and finished in seventh place out of seven teams.

Lakeland’s score of 309 earned the top spot at the meet. Mosinee took second place with 348 strokes, followed by Antigo with 358, Medford with 368, Northland Pines with 373, and Rhinelander with 375.

Tomahawk did not have a team scoring due to having only three golfers compete. A minimum of four golfers is required to have a team score.

Lakeland’s Kaeden Nomm and Jack Rubo tied for the best score in the meet with 76.

“Each day in practice we get a little bit better,” coach Garth Gerstenberger said. “We have slowly been bringing our scores down. This week we really worked on our short game and the results were evident when you watched us chipping around the green.”

On Friday, May 14, the varsity squad visited Northland Pines, and were set to travel to Medford on Monday, May 17.

JV at Rhinelander, Antigo

The JV Hatchet golf team were on the road for meets in Rhinelander and Antigo earlier this month.

Lakeland took first place in the meet in Rhinelander on Friday, May 7. Antigo finished in second place with 217, followed by Northland Pines (220), Mosinee (241), Medford (255), Rhinelander (260), and Tomahawk (289).

Antigo’s Jack Hilger and Lakeland’s Tim Meitus tied for the lowest score in the meet with 47 strokes.

On Wednesday, May 12, the JV squad competed in a meet in Antigo, where Mosinee took the top spot with a score of 193. Antigo finished in second place with a score of 204, followed by Northland Pines (208), Medford (213), Tomahawk (219), Rhinelander (238), and Antigo 2 (264).

Gray Wagner of Lakeland’s score of 41 was the meet’s best. Tomahawk’s Owen Dickrell finished in fourth place in individual scoring, shooting a 43.

The JV Hatchet golfers are gearing up for a meet at Northland Pines on Thursday, May 20.
