Tomahawk golfers hit the road for conference meets

For the Tomahawk Leader

ANTIGO – The varsity and JV Hatchet golf squads were on the road for numerous conference meets last week.

Varsity at Antigo

The Tomahawk Hatchet varsity golf team visited Antigo for a meet on Tuesday, May 11 and finished in seventh place out of seven teams.

Lakeland’s score of 309 earned the top spot at the meet. Mosinee took second place with 348 strokes, followed by Antigo with 358, Medford with 368, Northland Pines with 373, and Rhinelander with 375.

Tomahawk did not have a team scoring due to having only three golfers compete. A minimum of four golfers is required to have a team score.

Lakeland’s Kaeden Nomm and Jack Rubo tied for the best score in the meet with 76.

“Each day in practice we get a little bit better,” coach Garth Gerstenberger said. “We have slowly been bringing our scores down. This week we really worked on our short game and the results were evident when you watched us chipping around the green.”

On Friday, May 14, the varsity squad visited Northland Pines, and were set to travel to Medford on Monday, May 17.
