Phyllis R. Day

Phyllis R. Day, age 95, of Tomahawk, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2021 under the care of Compassus Hospice.

Phyllis was born in Tomahawk on March 5, 1926 to William and Diana (Smith) Gallagher. She was married on Aug. 3, 1946 in Tomahawk to John “Jack” Day upon his return from serving in the US Coast Guard. Jack preceded her in death in 1994. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Billy Gallagher. Phyllis was employed as a teller at Bradley Bank in Tomahawk for 21 years, and kept the books for the family business, Day’s Radio and TV. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She had five children and six grandchildren. Phyllis was an exceptional cook and enjoyed hobbies such as ceramics and knitting, and also enjoyed reading, and volunteering in the community. She and Jack enjoyed the company of many friends and were avid card players.

Phyllis is survived by her children – Tim Day (and Christi) of Madison, Wis., Diana Day of San Diego, Calif., Jackie Day of Missoula, Mont., and Jeff Day (and Monette) of Eden Prairie, Minn. She was preceded in death by Sue Day-Winkleman in 2004. She is further survived by her grandchildren – Connor, Eric, Emma, Alex, Robert and Jon.

The Memorial Service for Phyllis Day will take place at 4 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Krueger Family Funeral Home, Tomahawk. Deacon Dave Bablick will officiate. Visitation will take place from 2 p.m. until the time of service at 4 p.m. A private burial will follow the service.
