TOWN OF SCHLEY – A fatal ATV crash that occurred in the Town of Schley on Friday, April 2 is under investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

A release from the Sheriff’s Office said Merrill EMS, Russell First Responders, and deputies responded to the dead end of Holdorff Road in the Town of Schley after a 911 call was received at about 5:24 p.m. reporting that a woman who had gone missing earlier in the day had been located deceased.

Per the investigation, Cynthia K. Diesen, 69, of Weston, was operating an ATV when she attempted to turn around, accelerated forward quickly, and traveled off the embankment into the Prairie River. A neighbor located Diesen a short distance downstream, the release said.

Diesen was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the release, Diesen was not wearing a helmet, and there were no passengers on the ATV at the time of the crash. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
