Merrill woman killed in Town of Corning vehicle crash

TOWN OF CORNING – A Merrill woman was killed in a motor vehicle crash that occurred at about 1:45 p.m. on Friday, April 2 in the Town of Corning, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, a pickup truck traveling eastbound on State Highway 64 near Farmingdale Road crossed the centerline and struck another motor vehicle traveling westbound. The driver of the westbound vehicle, Stephanie A. Yonke, 35, of Merrill, received fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene by Lincoln County Coroner Paul C. Proulx. A six-year-old boy traveling in the westbound vehicle was transported to Wausau Aspirus Hospital, where he was treated and later released.

The driver of the pickup truck, a Colby man, 20, was transported via Life Link helicopter to Wausau Aspirus Hospital.

A Trooper from the Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit is assisting with the investigation. The Merrill Fire Department EMS, Corning Fire Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Lincoln County Coroner’s Office, Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office, Lincoln County Highway Department, and Life Link Helicopter assisted at the scene.
