Workshop to provide insight on western Oneida County stream crossings, culverts
For the Tomahawk Leader
ONEIDA COUNTY – If you have ever questioned whether an undersized culvert can influence how many fish you catch in your favorite trout stream, or if a culvert aligned more effectively could minimize spring road flooding, the answer is “Yes!”
Last year, the Oneida County Land Conservation Department received a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) River Planning Grant and spent July through October identifying, prioritizing and surveying 105 stream crossings, including 34 trout streams, throughout six towns in western Oneida County: Hazelhurst, Lake Tomahawk, Little Rice, Lynne, Minocqua and Woodruff.
“The grant allowed us to collect data on fish passability, culvert condition, and stream crossing erosion at each site,” the department said in a release.
The results of the survey will be presented via Zoom on Thursday, March 25, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Oneida County’s JoAnne Lund, River Grant Specialist, will provide an in-depth look at the results.
“We hope town officials, road crews, and all who care about Oneida County rivers and streams will attend this free workshop,” the department stated.
Registration for the workshop is required. To register, visit www.bit.ly/3eBNJjc.
