Arlene J. Strand

Arlene J. Strand, age 82, of Tomahawk, passed away on Friday, Dec. 4, 2020 at Seasons of Life Hospice in Woodruff.

Arlene was born on Jan. 8, 1938 in Palatine, Ill., to Edward and Alma (Schwolow) Tonne. She was married to Carl “Bill” Strand on July 22, 1961 in Palatine, Ill. Arlene and Bill were high school sweethearts and were happily married for 59 years. For over 30 years, Arlene worked at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Ill., as a registered nurse in the obstetrics department in both mother/baby care and labor and delivery. After Arlene and Bill retired to Tomahawk in 2000, Arlene joined her husband as a volunteer on the Little Rice fire department, serving as a secretary and a canteen unit volunteer. She also served as a past secretary of the Killarney Lake Association. Arlene loved the outdoors and traveled the country with her husband and family. She was an avid quilter and cross stitcher and enjoyed working on countless projects for her nine grandchildren. Arlene and Bill are members of Grace Lutheran Church.

Arlene is survived by her husband – Bill Strand of Tomahawk; children – Carrie (Keith) Hansen, Julie (Bob) Lowenstrom and Erik (Dawn) Strand, all of Plainfield, Ill. She is further survived by nine grandchildren, Madison, Austin (Shea), Trevor, McKenna, Katy, Jayson, Robert, Grace, and Corinne; and one great-grandson, Parker. Arlene is preceded in death by her parents.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a Memorial Service for Arlene Strand will be planned at Grace Lutheran Church in spring/summer of 2021.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Arlene’s name to Seasons of Life Hospice House in Woodruff or Grace Lutheran Church in Tomahawk.
