For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – Volunteers gathered in front of Kracker Barrel gas station, 11790 County Road L, Tomahawk, on Friday, Nov. 20 to kickoff the 2020 Salvation Army Red Kettle fundraising effort.

Honorary Chairman Gerry Johnson and kickoff host Jim Charles joined volunteers to mark the beginning of the campaign, which seeks to raise a total of $47,000. The funds will be allocated to emergency assistance for those in need, along with supplementing the budget of the Happy Kids Backpack Program.

Campaign coordinators Wendy and Dennis Mannering noted that there are many ways to help with fundraising efforts this year.

“Because of COVID 19, bell ringers are harder to find, so when you see the sign ‘Virtual Bell Ringer’ (pictured below), please donate as you would if a ‘live’ ringer were present,” Wendy stated.

Those interested in bell ringing can sign up at www.registertoring.com, by calling 715-612-0445, or by speaking with your church recruiter.

Donation checks can be made out to Salvation Army of Tomahawk and sent Salvation Army of Tomahawk, 108 W. Somo Ave., Tomahawk, Wis., 54487. Online donations can be made on the Salvation Army of Tomahawk’s Facebook page or at www.thesalvationarmywi.regfox.com/tomahawk-referrals-virtual-kettle.

“Without our volunteer ringers and generous donations from churches, school organizations, businesses, business organizations and individual volunteers, we would not be able to reach our goal,” Wendy said. “We have an amazingly generous community!”
