Whilemina M. Amelse, age 92, of Tomahawk, passed away on Nov. 13, 2020 at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Whil was born on Feb. 13, 1928 in Harrison to Lawrence and Cecelia (Zuiker) Schoone. She married Theodore W. Amelse on June 9, 1949 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Harrison. Whil especially enjoyed her family and their “Christmas in July” celebrations at the family cabin.

Whil is survived by her five daughters – Ruth Ann (Cliff) Anderson of Okeechobee, Fla., Chris (Dan) Towle of Tomahawk, Mary (John) Kimball of Albany, N.Y., Lucy (Jim) Berndt of Rice Lake, and Loretta (Dale) Wanta of Tomahawk; three sons – Dick (Jeannie) Amelse of Mosinee, Bill (Bobbi) Amelse of Reedsburg, Wis., and Ed (Kelly) Amelse of Palatine, Ill. Also left behind are her brothers – Pete (Kay) Schoone, Lawrence (Ruby) Schoone, Jerry (Judy) Schoone, and Jake (Jackie) Schoone; sisters – Jean VanStrydonk, Mary (Jack) VanRyen, Corrinne Swan and Cecelia (Ted) Rudolph. Whil is further survived by 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law – Dede Amelse and Johanna Amelse. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband – Ted, brother – Fr. Raymond Schoone, sister – Annette Daigle-Stewart, and two great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Service for Whilemina Amelse will be held on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020 11 a.m. from St. Augustine Catholic Church in Harrison. Burial will follow in the St. Augustine Cemetery. The Amelse family will receive friends at the church on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Face masks are mandatory and social distancing is encouraged. The family requests that we expedite the receiving line in effort to promote safety, along with keeping conversations brief.
