Two people injured after Town of Schley furnace explosion

TOWN OF SCHLEY – Two people were injured after a furnace exploded at a Lincoln County home on Monday, Oct. 13.

According to a Tuesday, Oct. 14 release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call was received at 3:25 p.m. reporting the incident at a residence on County Road X in the Town of Schley.

“The caller indicated her husband was trapped and both parties had received severe burns,” the release stated. “Both parties were flown from the scene by Life Link 3 and 4 to Aspirus Hospital as a result of their injuries. Their condition is unknown at this time.”

The property owner said he was attempting to ignite the furnace when it exploded. No structure fire occurred following the blast, according to the release.

The cause of the explosion is unknown.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Russell Fire Department and First Responders, Pine River Fire Department and Merrill EMS responded to the scene.
