Hatchet swimmers defeated by Lakeland

For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Hatchet girls swim team took on the Lakeland Thunderbirds at Hatchet Pool on Thursday, Sept. 24.

“We swam some great races, but Lakeland won every event,” head coach Theresa L’Esperance stated. “We moved some swimmers around to see what we could do.”

The coach noted Maddy List took five seconds off her free time “for a nice 5th-place finish,” scoring her first varsity points.

“Karlie (Woodall) and Joanna (Phillips) continue to swim fast in the sprints, and we just got touched out in the 200 Free Relay,” L’Esperance said. “Abby (Jaecks) swam a great leg of breaststroke in the Medley, as did Karlie swimming the fly. Julianna (Skuball) and Taya (Johnson) rounded out our upper classmates for a 2nd-place finish.”

L’Esperance added that Brynnen Stefan was quickly moved back into her regular events, hoping to help with the scoring.

“She is resilient and gave it her best in the 200 and 500 for a 2nd- and 3rd-place finish,” the coach said. “AJ Schertz continues to work hard and contribute to the team.”
