Tomahawk runners shine in rescheduled Pow Wow Days 5k/10k, Fun Run races

TOMAHAWK – The Pow Wow Days 5k/10k and 1-mile races, postponed from July 4 to Sept. 5, saw roughly 120 runners compete. Several local athletes did well in the races held at Veterans Memorial Park in Tomahawk, winning overall championships, as well as garnering medalist honors in their age groups.

“The 5K race saw many local high school Hatchets pick up hardware,” said Hatchet cross country coach John Zuelsdorf. “Drew Bolder, a senior on the Tomahawk cross country team, cruised to a fast time of 16:59 for 5K in topping the field and grabbing the trophy. Not to be outdone, the women were led by sophomore Greta Tjugum, as she was the women’s winner in a time of 20:53.”

Other age group champions were: Addison Eggen, Oshkosh, Wis., and Max Larsen, Weston, Wis., 10 & under; Anita Ziert and Joseph Zastrow, both of Tomahawk, 11-12; Rachael Reilly and Owen Dickrell, both of Tomahawk, 13-14; Emily Lacina and Arden Ziert, both of Tomahawk, 15-16; Kate Reilly and Noah Buckwalter, both of Tomahawk, 17-19; Jorden Leggett, Tomahawk, 20-29; Amber Czech, Muskego, Wis., and Adam Knoll, Stratford, Wis., 30-39; Heidi Cade, Viroqua, Wis., and Nate Zastrow, Tomahawk, 40-49; Kim Hilgendorf, Tomahawk, and Chad Zimanek, Green Bay, Wis., 50-59; Barb Ament, Merrill, and Gary Buchanen, Tomahawk, 60-69; Jude Running, Appleton, Wis., and Roger Martens, Tomahawk, 70 & up.

“Conner Ahrens, a member of the current Hatchet cross-country coaching staff and recent UW-Stout CC/track standout, topped the field in the 10K as he took home the trophy in a time of 36:41,” Zuelsdorf stated. “The women were led by Hilary Eggen from Roberts, Wis., in a time of 43:00.”

Other age group winners in the 10K were: Barret Eggen, Roberts, Wis., 14 & under; Stephanie Welke, Tomahawk, 20-29 (also the runner-up champion); Corey Minnameier, Glendale, Wis., 20-29; Joe Hettwer, Tomahawk, 30-39; Josh Jensen, Merrill, 30-39; Melissa Scheutt, Beaver Dam, Wis.,30-39; Brad Gast, Weston, Wis., 40-49; Dale Kufahl, Kewaskum, Wis., 50-59; Janine Lau, Milwaukee, 60-69; and Frank Hinterleitner, Tomahawk, 60-69.

The 1-mile Fun Run was won by Tyler Totsch of Westfield, Wis., and Stella Eggen of Roberts, Wis.

“Special thanks to the Lions Club, the City of Tomahawk and the many parent volunteers that helped make this event a success,” Zuelsdorf said.
