Oneida County Sheriff’s Office sponsoring DNR-certified safety courses

ONEIDA COUNTY – The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday, June 30 that it will be sponsoring DNR-certified Hunter’s Safety, Boater’s Safety, and ATV/UTV Safety courses this month.

All courses will be held at the Oneida County Law Enforcement Center, located at 2000 E. Winnebago St., Rhinelander.

Advanced online registration is required for all courses. Register at www.gowild.wi.gov. Contact Deputy Michael Baran Office at 715-493-0540 for more information on the courses.

Students are required to obtain a DNR customer ID number for any recreational safety class they attend. Contact the DNR at 1-888-936-7463 to obtain this number before the courses begin.

“Students with special needs are asked to notify the department when registering and request special accommodations that may be required for participation,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

Hunter’s Safety

Hunter’s Safety courses will take place Monday, July 20, through Wednesday, July 22, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day; and Monday, July 20, through Wednesday July 22, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

Students must be 12 years old to enroll. There is no maximum age, and parents and adults are encouraged to enroll and participate in this course. Cost for each course is $10 per person. Anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1973 must complete a Hunter’s Safety course to hunt in the state of Wisconsin.

Boater’s Safety

Boater’s Safety courses will take place Thursday, July 24, through Friday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.

Students must be 12 years old to enroll. There is no maximum age, and parents and adults are encouraged to enroll and participate in this course. Cost for the course is $10 per person.

ATV/UTV Safety

ATV/UTV Safety courses will take place Thursday July 24, through Friday, July 25, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day.

Students must be 12 years old to enroll. There is no maximum age, and parents and adults are encouraged to enroll and participate in this course. Cost for the course is $10 per person. Anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1988, who is at least 12 years old for ATV (and at least 16 years old for UTV) must complete an ATV and UTV safety certification course in order to operate on public ATV/UTV trails and areas in Wisconsin.
