Susan J. Tyykila, age 67, of Tomahawk, passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Susan was born in Phelps, Wis., on June 12, 1953.
Susan was a graduate of Union Grove High School. She later married and was a dedicated homemaker who lovingly raised her family. When her children were older, she worked as a caregiver at the Southern Wisconsin Center in Union Grove serving adult clients with disabilities. In 1998, she and her husband, Ed, built their home in Tomahawk and opened it up to those with special needs, where she touched the lives of many for over 20 years. Susan enjoyed all crafts, including quilting, needle craft, and making cards. She loved gardening and the beauty of the Northwoods. Above all, Susan enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered as being a sassy, “tough cookie” with a huge heart who adored caring for others.
Survivors include: three sons, Terry (Carolyn) Dransfield, of Tomahawk, Andrew (Beth) Tyykila, of Kentucky, and Randy Geschke, of Racine, Wis.; two daughters, Jacqueline (Don) Tyler, of Waukesha, Wis., and Jennifer Tyykila, of Racine; one son-in-law, Jason Adams, of Racine; one brother, George “Bud” (Sharon) Collins, of Minnesota; and two sisters, Lynn Soma and Kim Collins, both of Minnesota.
She is further survived by 17 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and was looking forward to an additional great-grandchild on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and JoAnn; her son, Clint Dransfield, and her sister, Kay Collins.
Burial for Susan Tyykila took place at Greenwood Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 20. A Celebration of Life began at 1 p.m., at Susan’s home. Family and friends were invited to a luncheon where Susan’s favorite music was played and all were encouraged to share wonderful memories. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the family.
