As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Sunday, May 17:
Traffic on US Hwy. 51 was slowed briefly Friday afternoon when a grass fire was reported near Kaphaem Rd. in the Town of Bradley. A trooper from the Wisconsin State Patrol found where a blanket was burning on the side of the road but had been extinguished by a passerby prior to firefighters arriving. On Saturday, DNR and Tomahawk firefighters responded to the camping area at Otter Lake Campground after a fire was found smoldering in the woods.
Two Rhinelander men were injured after a UTV crash Saturday afternoon in the Town of Harrison. The Rec. Deputy along with the DNR, Oneida County Med One and Crescent First Responders responded to the area of State Rd. 17 and Bowman Rd. after the crash was reported on John Bailey Trail. The driver, 34, reported he went off a trail and down a hill where his UTV collided with trees. The driver was ejected from the machine while his passenger. A Rhinelander man, 21, remained inside of the vehicle. Neither were wearing helmets or seatbelts. The Rec. Deputy noted alcohol was not a factor in the crash but speed likely was.
A Tomahawk man, 62, was injured after an ATV crash Saturday evening on Bridge Rd. in the Town of Tomahawk. The crash was reported to 911 at 5:07 p.m. Paramedics treated the man on scene and then transferred him to the Spirit 2 medical helicopter, which flew the man to the trauma center at Aspirus. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. State Rd. 86 at Bridge Rd. was closed to allow the helicopter to land.
Town of Russell firefighters along with the DNR and the Rec. Deputy responded to a residence in the Town of Schley Saturday evening after a report of a fire. When the Rec. Deputy arrived, he found the man was burning debris, including garbage, in a pit. Firefighters put out the flames and the DNR took enforcement action.
Four people were arrested and one was cited following a traffic stop on County Rd. K near Larson Lake Rd. in the Town of Birch early Monday morning. During the traffic stop, K9 Poncho alerted to the odor of illegal drugs inside the vehicle. Following a probable cause search of the vehicle, a Pewaukee man, 24, was arrested for possession of THC second offense, felony bail jumping, obstructing/resisting, and a probation violation. A Lac Du Flambeau female, 23, was arrested for possession of THC, bail jumping, probation violation and an active warrant. A Muskego man, 22, was arrested for possession of THC second offense and felony bail jumping. A Milwaukee man, 29, was arrested for possession of THC. The driver a Delafield female, 22, was cited for operating after suspension and operating without proof of insurance.
Three people reported striking deer last week. A bear was struck and killed on Wednesday morning on US Hwy. 51 near County Rd K in the Town of Merrill.
