Sheriff’s Office: Fatal Pine River car accident involving three Merrill 16-year-olds under investigation

TOWN OF PINE RIVER – A fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred in the Town of Pine River in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 29 is under investigation, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to a release the Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call was received at 1:14 a.m. reporting that a vehicle had left the road and rolled over on Shady Lane Ave. When deputies arrived on the scene, they found that a passenger had been ejected from the vehicle. The passenger was pronounced dead on the scene by Lincoln County Coroner Paul C. Proulx.

A second passenger was transported to the trauma center at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. The driver of the vehicle was treated and released from a local medical facility and is currently in custody, the Sheriff’s Office said.

All three occupants of the vehicle are 16 years old and from Merrill. Their names will be released Thursday, April 30.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is reconstructing the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
