James D. Kirkbride

James D. Kirkbride, age 78, of Tomahawk, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 under the care of Ministry Home Hospice.

Jim was born on Sept. 29, 1941 in Canton, Ohio, to his parents Dale and Betty (Little) Kirkbride. Jim served our country with the US Army. He was married to Annie Nehlsen on June 5, 1982 in Tomahawk. Jim truly devoted his life to Annie. Even when she suffered with dementia, he still committed his time to visiting her on the memory unit at Milestone, arriving in the morning, going home for lunch, and coming back to spend the afternoon and evening with her. She preceded him in death in 2010. Jim moved to Tomahawk in 1976 and worked at the Tomahawk Paper Mill for over 24 years. He was a Cubs fan and loved living on the lake. He enjoyed antique cars and going to car shows, casino trips, garage sales, four wheeling and hunting.

Little is known by the family of Jim’s life prior to his time in Tomahawk. What is known, is he spent six years in Chicago and was part of the crew that worked at the Chicago Stadium. He installed and uninstalled the basketball court, as well as set up for concerts. What the family can tell you is – he loved kids, he loved their mother and was a good man.

Jim is survived by his stepson – Edward (Shirley) Sadowski of Tuscola, Ill., two grandchildren – Justin and Jennine and three great grandchildren – Lily, Wyatt and Isla. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife – Anna and stepsons – Kevin, Chris and Jay.

A Memorial Service celebrating Jim Kirkbride’s life will take place at a later date.
