FOR THE TOMAHAWK LEADER
Martha Schouweiler of Otter Run Kennel in Irma has defended her championship in the 11th running of the 10 dog CopperDog 150 sled race in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula.
Schouweiler completed the nearly 150 miles of the three-day race in just under 10 hours and 18 minutes. She defeated Ryan Anderson of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin by a mere 1 minute and 40 seconds. Jake Golton from Ontario, Canada placed third.
The win completed an outstanding season for Otter Run Kennel. Martha, along with daughter-in-law Erin Schouweiler, finished the racing campaign with two firsts, a second and a fourth. Chad Schouweiler is the kennel’s manager, trainer and chief handler.
