The Lady Hatchet hoopsters looked to notch their second victory of the season and first in the Great Northern Conference tonight as they travel to Lakeland for a conference tilt.

Earlier in the week Tomahawk hosted Medford for their season home opener and fell by a score 61-12. The Raiders (4-1) up-pace tempo forced a number of Tomahawk (1-4) turnovers that they turned into easy scores and points from the fee throw line to take a 37-8 lead into the half.

“We played our best half court defense of the year,” coach Garth Gerstenberger stated in adding as a team they were helping out and seeing the ball well the entire game. “Our turnovers on offense gave Medford too many uncontested layups, which is an area that we will have to improve.”

Ella Genelin led the Hatchet offense with 4 points. Also getting on the scoreboard for Tomahawk, Emily Maki, Maddie Marino, Gracie Barnett and Addison Bartz all finished with 2 points, respectively.

Tomahawk travels to T-Bird Country tonight (Tuesday) to take on Lakeland. Opening tip is at 6 p.m. A game scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 19 against Goodman-Pembine has been cancelled due to low numbers. The Hatchets return after the holiday break with a home game against Antigo on Jan. 3.
