City of Tomahawk residents with an old couch or television to dispose of will want to take advantage of the 14th annual citywide Dumpster Day and used electronic drop-off Saturday, September 7th.

Sponsored by the City of Tomahawk, the citywide cleanup was started by Tomahawk Make a Difference Group to provide a free, nearby location for city residents to dispose of large household items that would otherwise need to be hauled to the dump.  The event is an effort to make the city a more attractive place to visit and call home.

Running in conjunction with Dumpster Day, Tomahawk Iron and Metal will have a truck on hand at the site to take most items not being accepted as part of the free drop-off.  An electronic drop-off will also be held at the Dumpster Day site as part of the citywide cleanup.

Dumpster Day is only open to city residents and an ID will be required to take part.  The electronic drop-off is open to anyone, and Tomahawk Iron and Metal will also be open at its main location, N10447 Tannery Rd., until noon on the day of the event for non-city residents.

Tomahawk Boy Scouts Troop 548 is again providing roadside pickup for City residents unable to make it to the drop off site.  A fee of $15.00 is required for this service.  Those needing assistance having items removed from homes or who would like to have the Boy Scouts pick up items at curbside are asked to contact City Hall at 715-453-4040.  A pre-registration is required for the services by 4pm on the Friday.

Dumpster Day and the electronic drop-off will be held at the City Garage, 415 W Spirit Ave, near the downtown at the corner of W Spirit Ave and Railway St.  Dumpster Day gets underway at 8am and ends at noon.

Items such as old beds, unwanted couches and other household items can be disposed of at no cost.  Donation are appreciated to fund next years’ service.  Hazardous waste items like paint, gas cans, household chemicals, insecticides and medication will not be accepted.

Tomahawk Iron and Metal will take a number of items not allowed in the Dumpster Day dumpster.  Cost to dispose of these items at the electronic drop-off include: monitors/computers, $15; 26-inch or smaller TVs, $20; TVs 27-inch or larger, $25 to $30; copiers and floor model printers, $25; desktop printers, fax machines, DVDs VCRs, stereos and typewriters, $5; microwaves, no charge; Tires, $2.00 (15”) $3.00 (16”).
