Community Calendar and News Briefs: August 21, 2019

 

The public is invited to a celebration being held for the return of the iconic Lake Ice Bear to Sawdy Pond earlier this summer. The Tomahawk Area Historical Society invites the community to join them Thursday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Pine Tree Supper Club. History of the bear, Lake Ice Company and Sawdy Pond will be presented by Tom Weizenicker. The early start time will leave time to catch the Packers/Bears game. Admission is free, however donations will be appreciated.

 

A Fall 2019 Archery Safety Education Class will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Tomahawk DNR, 518 W. Somo Ave., Tomahawk. This will be an add-on to the Hunter Safety Class. Cost is $10. Field Day will take place Sunday, Sept. 14 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sign up will be at Park City Credit Union, 1213 N. 4th St., Tomahawk, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, Tuesday, Aug. 27 and Wednesday, Aug. 28.

 

Two blood drives will be held in Tomahawk Friday, Sept. 13. The first, sponsored by Heritage Chevrolet and Park City Credit Union, will be held during the Tomahawk Fall Ride from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Heritage Chevrolet, 1227 N. 4th St. To pre-register, call 800-280-4102, or stop by Park City Credit Union’s main branch, 1213 N. 4th St. A free T-shirt will be given to all who attend. The other, in partnership with the Community Blood Center, will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Spruce Room at Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital, 401 W. Mohawk Road. Tomahawk Public Library’s “Play and Learn” program is now called “Library Time.” Library Time is an opportunity for children to develop friendships and early literacy skills through talking, singing, reading, writing and playing. This play based program is for young children and those who take care of them. Library Time will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every Thursday from September through May.

 

Tomahawk Public Library will host a children’s Moving to Music program Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The program, combining music and movement to help young children learn to control their bodies, encourages caregivers and kids together to have fun clapping, marching and moving to music.

 

Prince of Peace Church, 1328 County Road A, Tomahawk, invites the public to attend free and confidential Community Healing Rooms to receive prayer for healing. The rooms are open Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Contact Paula Thomas at 715-453-4119 with questions.

 

Open Arms Community Soup Kitchen is open Tuesdays, welcoming any hungry souls as well as those who want to socialize between 5 and 6:30 p.m. at the Corpus Christi Center adjacent to St. Mary’s Church.
