Kinship of Tomahawk is in need of help collecting new school supplies for Kinskids (kids in the Kinship program) for the upcoming school year. Tags listing needed supplies and school fees can be found at Trig’s or Tomahawk Pharmacy. Purchased supplies and school fees may be dropped off at the Tomahawk Leader office, Tomahawk Pharmacy or the Kinship House (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.) by Friday, Aug. 16. According to legend, his rival Roger Toughy would vacation in Minocqua, where he was known to use a machine gun to make quick work of fishing trips. One of the original mobsters from Chicago, Al Capone once owned a fortified cabin on a lake near Hayward where he used hydroplanes to fly whiskey in from Canada during prohibition. The public will have an opportunity to learn much more about Scarface and his ties to the Northwoods through the eyes Deirdre Mari Capone, niece of Al Capone, as she will be hosting a discussion at the Merrill High School Auditorium tonight (Tuesday, Aug. 13) at 6 p.m. The free event is sponsored by the T.B. The Girl Scouts will be at the Tomahawk Elementary School Open House on Aug. 28 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. to answer all your questions about Girl Scouts. Registration will take place during the Open House, along with Thursday, Sept. 12, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Tomahawk Elementary School cafeteria. Girl Scout Leaders are needed!

 

A Fall 2019 Archery Safety Education Class will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Tomahawk DNR, 518 W. Somo Ave., Tomahawk. This will be an add on to the Hunter Safety Class. Cost is $10. Field Day will take place Sunday, Sept. 14 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sign up will be at Park City Credit Union, 1213 N. 4th St., Tomahawk, from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, Tuesday, Aug. 27 and Wednesday, Aug. 28.

 

Tomahawk Public Library’s “Play and Learn” program is now called “Library Time.” Library Time is an opportunity for children to develop friendships and early literacy skills through talking, singing, reading, writing and playing. This play based program is for young children and those who take care of them. Library Time will be held from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. every Thursday from September through May.

 

Tomahawk Public Library will host a children’s Moving to Music program Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The program, combining music and movement to help young children learn to control their bodies, encourages caregivers and kids together to have fun clapping, marching and moving to music.

 

Prince of Peace Church, 1328 County Road A, Tomahawk, invites the public to attend free and confidential Community Healing Rooms to receive prayer for healing. The rooms are open Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. Contact Paula Thomas at 715-453-4119 with questions.

 

Open Arms Community Soup Kitchen is open Tuesdays, welcoming any hungry souls as well as those who want to socialize between 5 and 6:30 p.m. at the Corpus Christi Center adjacent to St. Mary’s Church. All are welcome to enjoy the free dinner. Anyone who would like to support this volunteer effort may send donations to P.O. Box 1, Tomahawk, WI 54487.
