The Tomahawk Titans defeated the Spirit Twins 15-1 in Dairyland League baseball action on Sunday afternoon. Tomahawk used a big seven run rally in the second inning to take control of the game and never looked back.
Jacob Jarvensivu led off the second inning with a line drive single to right. Kory Brietzke followed with a single to center and when the center fielder’s throw went to third to try to catch the advancing Jarvensivu, Brietzke moved on to second base. Caleb Armstrong drilled a liner to deep center which worked as a sacrifice fly and brought home Jarvensivu to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. Logan Hile stepped to the batter’s box and hit the first pitch to the wall in right center for an RBI double to increase the lead to 2-0. After a strikeout, Jared Jarvensivu kept the inning alive with an RBI single to right center driving in Hile and giving the Titans a 3-0 lead. Justin Jarvensivu kept the rally going with line drive RBI double to the left field corner scoring his brother and making the score 4-0. Jacob Demeyer followed with a deep drive to left field which cleared the fence for a two-run homer to increase the lead to 6-0. Not to be outdone, Cody Brietzke went back to back with a deep shot to center over the wall. The solo shot gave the Titans a 7-0.
Spirit responded with a run in the bottom of the second inning on a fielder’s choice grounder to cut the lead to 7-1.
Unfortunately for the Twins, they never posed another offensive threat against Titans’ pitchers, C. Brietzke, J. Demeyer, and Caleb Armstrong. Meanwhile, the Titans continued to add on runs with one in the fourth inning, four in the fifth inning, and three runs in the seventh inning. In a seventh inning rally, Jacob Armstrong led off with a line drive single to right field and advanced to second on Aaron Cook’s walk. Freddy Koth then delivered a liner to left center scoring Armstrong and increasing the growing lead to 13-1. Consecutive singles by Kory Brietzke, Caleb Armstrong, and Connor Ahrens drove in two more runs and brought the score to 15-1.
The Titans pounded out an impressive 21 hits in the victory, led by Cody Brietzke’s two home runs and four RBI’s. Isaac Weber and Jacob Jarvensivu each added three hits and Jacob Demeyer contributed two hits including a two-run homer and three RBI.
Brietzke got the win on the mound allowing one earned run while striking out five. Demeyer and Caleb Armstrong pitched scoreless innings in relief.
With the win, Tomahawk improves to 6-4 on the season and remains in strong contention for a Dairyland playoff berth. The Titans travel to Rib Lake on Friday to take on the Osprey and then travel to Schofield to take on Everest on Saturday evening to conclude the regular season.
