Stretch from County O to County E, Wisconsin River bridge effected by road construction

By Jalen Maki

Tomahawk Leader Co-Editor

The two-week closure of State Highway 86 west of Tomahawk from County Road O to County Road E will begin today (Tuesday, July 16) for culvert and cable barrier replacements. Traffic will be detoured via Highways 13, 8 and 51. Local traffic will be allowed as signed.

The Highway 86 bridge over the Wisconsin River on the south side of Tomahawk will also see repairs being made beginning today, with staking, traffic control setup, concrete saw cutting, temporary traffic signal installation and asphalt shoulder widening set to take place this week. Traffic will be reduced to a single lane with temporary traffic signals, and the roadway will be reduced to 12 feet on the bridge.

The Wisconsin River bridge project is slated to end in May 2020, according to the Department of Transportation.

Road construction on State Highway 86 from the Price County line at County Highway YY to the Wisconsin River bridge in Tomahawk will see the entire stretch of Highway 86 resurfaced.

The project will consist of milling the top two inches of existing pavement and repaving the roadway with two inches of new asphaltic pavement. Nine cross culverts will be replaced, along with substandard cable guard and guardrail, including new guardrail at the Spirit River Flowage.

The work is scheduled to be competed October 17.
