THS forensics team wraps up season at State competition in DeForest

For the Tomahawk Leader

DEFOREST – The Tomahawk High School (THS) Forensics team wrapped up its season at the 129th annual State competition in DeForest on Friday, April 19.

Coach Michele Balda said the Hatchets returned to Tomahawk with lots of hardware and noted that she and fellow coaches, Nancy Herbison and Shirley Derleth, are very pleased with the team’s results.

“Many had their best scores of the season, and the judging at state is always tougher,” Balda said. “Participating in public speaking, something so many people rate as a number one fear but is needed even more in this day when most use technology to communicate, and doing so not only in a competition setting, but also for fun, these students have been hard at work since early January, practicing weekly with their coaches, as well as on their own amid school work, jobs and other extracurricular activities. We are so proud of them.”

Earning perfect scores and gold medals were AJ S., Farrago; Cedar H., Poetry Reading; and Alena C., Prose Reading.

Silver medalists were Aubrey G., Mariah S. and Kambyl M., Group Interpretive Reading; Sadie R., Payton L. and Jayden D., Group Interpretive Reading; Sarah K., Delilah S., Landon P. and Tamara S., Group Interpretive Reading; Galen S., Prose Reading; and Madeline L., Prose Reading;

Capturing bronze were Arawen A., Izzy L., Trey M., Murphy K. and Xan S., Group Interpretive Reading; Phoebe H., Poetry Reading; Magdalene L., Prose Reading; and Julia M., Radio News Reporting.

“Great performances by all,” the coaches said. “Thank you for a great season.”
