Hatchet golfers open season at Inshalla

Varsity takes first place, JV second

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet golf team kicked off its season at Inshalla Country Club in Tomahawk on Tuesday, April 9.

The varsity Hatchets took first place in the meet with a score of 171, followed by Prentice (178) and Three Lakes (179).

The top varsity shooters were Tomahawk’s Austin Lamer and Prentice’s Matti Heikkinen, who each ended the day with scores of 38. Lamer had two birdies on the day.

Tomahawk’s Sawyer Hanna shot a 41, good for third place. Other Hatchet finishers were Owen Dickrell (45, 6th place), Carson Childers (47, 10th) and Caiden Reichelt (52, 15th).

On the JV side, Three Lakes took the top spot with a score of 218, followed by Tomahawk (227) and Prentice (Inc.).

Kali Heikkinen from Prentice was the top JV golfer with a score of 47.

JV Hatchet finishers included Brayden Lamer (53), Noah Pearson (55) and Lydia Ziert (59).

Coach Garth Gerstenberger noted that the team played well for its first time on the course this year.

“It was a great start to our season,” Gerstenberger said after the meet.

This week’s action

The Tomahawk golfers are scheduled to travel to Rolling Oaks Golf Course in Barron on Wednesday, April 17 for an invitational.
